GLOBAL GAP YEAR PROGRAMME
Gap year is commonly considered as a year after secondary school and before university. During this year the students decide or are obliged to take time off from schooling for social experience which is related to further study or career including travelling, internship and volunteer.
Nowadays the definition of Gap year is extended to a year after the completion of the students’ degree, which means, the importance of Gap year is more and more recognized by different age group.
BENEFITS FROM A GAP YEAR
With a feeling of being burned out of classroom education, you may be confused about the meaning and purpose of the education. The desire to understand yourself better is rising. Therefore, a break before your further study will give some time for yourself, to seek the value of your life, and the possibility of your next stage. A volunteer experience could enrich your understanding of life; a travel journey might explore your vision as well as your potential; an internship would establish the goal of your career life.
A year of experience outside school will help to develop you in the ways of personality, ability, knowledge and skills. “Genuine knowledge comes from practice.” Those that can’t be learnt in the classroom will teach you by experience. Those that you have gained will be solidified when being applied in the real life. It is better to travel ten thousand miles than to read ten thousand books – as to say. When you are far away from home, you will push yourself to be independent and strong – such improvement will be useful for any further movement of your life.
From the gap year experience, you will learn about the strength and weakness from the achievements and mistakes you made. This allows you to face the reality and evaluate yourself without bias. Also, the knowledge that you have learnt from the class will be measured by the application in the real life.
A Gap year will help you to understand what is suitable for your next step and prepare yourself for the rigorous school/career life. In a smaller picture, at least, it would help you to know how to design your career path and before which what to study for the first year in the university.
“Last but not at least, a Gap year experience can add value to your personal resume so as to boost your competitiveness”.
